Update Apr 2010:  Viv Marsh decided to install PV to take advantage of the new Feed in Tariff.  His original Solar Thermal system needed moving to accommodate it.

Below is the story of Viv's original solar thermal installation.

Eco-nomical employee Viv Marsh worked with Justin to install two Eco-58-1800-30 collectors on his own house.  This is a deliberately oversized collector field which should supply a very high solar fraction through the year.  Viv installed a 260 litre hot water cylinder and uses a heated towel rail as his heat dump, with backup heat dumping (because this is a large collector field) taken care of by a radiator in his attic.  An air scoop avoids the need for an air vent on the roof.  Viv reports very little input from his boiler over the winter period (2007/2008).

Thanks to Viv for this information.
